This website is a supplement to the Assmann Family History book project started by cousins Shelley Klozcko and Judith Silverthorne from Canada and completed with the help of Barbara Denscher, a cousin from Austria.

The whole book itself spans from the early 1600s in Germany to the late 1700s and into the 1800s in Galicia, Austria then to the mid 1800s in Volhynia, Russia and finally to the migration to North America in the 1890s to current day. Although this book primarily focuses on researching the direct ancestors of the authors’ great-grandparents, there is additional information that extends to other connected relatives of significance.

Due to the size of the Assmann Family History, we have chosen to divide it into two books for now.

PART 1 has the beginnings of the Assmann family origins as far back as we could find records. It spans from the early 1600s until Johann Jakob Assmann (1827-1906) and Maria Elisabeth Reisdorf (1831-1902) and their families migrated to North America, some going to the USA and some to Canada. Included is information on our great-grandparents, Karl Assmann and Katherina Elisabeth Erbach, and Karl’s siblings and the extended families in North America.

PART 2 focuses on the Canadian ancestors, particularly on Shelley and Judith’s great-grandparents, the family of Karl Assmann (1858 -1926) and Katharina Elisabeth Erbach (1863-1945) who came to Neudorf, North-West Territories (now Saskatchewan), Canada in 1892. Their twelve children and their families to the present day are also included.

Each of the two parts of the book are available as PDFs to download and view as is, or are suitable for printing at your local printshop. PART 1 and PART 2 are available now. We are looking into the costs of printing copies as well and will update this information once we have some quotes as to cost.
