The original English/Cree book, Honouring the Buffalo, was published by Your Nickel’s Worth Publishing in 2015.
Les Éditions de la nouvelle plume inaugurent l’année 2016 avec la publication d’une légende bilingue, en français et en cri, intitulée Hommage au Bison. Publiée d’abord en anglais et en cri sous le titre Honouring the Buffalo (Your Nickel’s Worth Publishing), cet album, abondamment illustré par l’artiste autochtone Mike Keepness, s’est mérité un Moonbeam Award, un Next Generation Indie Book Award, le Independent Publishers Award, et trois nominations aux Saskatchewan Book Awards et deux High Plains Book Awards. Cette légende ancestrale relate la façon dont le bison est devenu un animal sacré pour les Cris. « Je vais m’offrir à eux, dit le Bison. Je vais leur permettre d’utiliser toutes les parties de mon corps, car elles se valent toutes. »
À travers le Créateur, le bison s’est offert en cadeau au peuple cri des Plaines pour lui procurer protection, nourriture, guérison et bien d’autres choses utiles à sa survie.

Ray Lavallee, narrateur, raconte cette légende des Cris des Plaines, écrite par Judith Silverthorne et entièrement illustrée par l’illustrateur autochtone Mike Keepness. Les traductions en «Y» Cree sont de Randy Morin et éditées par Arok Wolvengrey et Jean Okimāsis. Et maintenant, grâce aux compétences de traduction de Martine Noël-Maw, Hommage au Bison est disponible en français et en cri.
Des guides de l’enseignant sont également disponibles dans les deux langues.

English: This oral Cree legend tells of how the buffalo, through the Creator, offered itself to the Plains Cree people as a gift of protection, food, healing and many other things useful for their survival. “I will give them myself,” said Buffalo. “I will let them use every part of my body, as all are equal. They will have shelter, food, clothing and many other things to aid in their survival.”
The legend of the buffalo was told in the oral tradition by storyteller Ray Lavallee, written by Judith Silverthorne, and illustrated by Mike Keepness with photographs of artifacts by Jeffery Sawatzky. The “Y” Cree translations are by Randy Morin, and edited by Arok Wolvengrey and Jean Okimāsis. The French translation was done by the skilled Martine Noël-Maw. Honouring the Buffalo won the Moonbeam Award, the Next Generation Indie Book Award, the Independent Publishers Award and was nominated for three Saskatchewan Book Awards.
